China's network competitiveness ranks 51st in the world and Sweden ranks first

Yesterday, the World Economic Forum released its annual "Global Information Technology Report", a "Network Readiness Index" that ranked the Internet competitiveness of 142 economies worldwide.

Among them, Sweden topped the list, while mainland China ranked 51st. The report said that although China ranks first among BRICS countries in terms of ranking, it is still far behind by developed countries.

According to the Network Readiness Index, Sweden and Singapore have topped the list in this year's report in using information and communication technology to enhance national competitiveness. Among the top ten are Switzerland, the Netherlands, the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. In addition, Taiwan and Hong Kong ranked 11th and 13th respectively.

According to the report, there is still a digital divide between developed and developing economies. Although many drivers of competitiveness have improved in the past, the BRICS countries, led by China, are still facing major challenges in applying and using ICT more comprehensively.

The lack of skill base and institutional flaws (especially in its business environment) create a large number of weak links, thus hindering entrepreneurship and innovation. Among the BRICS countries, Russia ranks 56th, Brazil ranks 65th, India ranks 69th, and South Africa ranks 72nd.

The Network Readiness Index is a set of indicator systems launched by the World Economic Forum. The index is used to score and rank the effectiveness of the major economies in the world in using information and communication technologies to promote economic development and competitiveness, so as to assess the information technology level of each economy.

Background: The World Economic Forum was established in 1971 and is dedicated to convening leaders from business, politics, and academia to collaborate to set global, regional, and industry agendas to improve world conditions.
