Unlike many traditional lighting and LEDs, OLED lighting is a surface light source, soft, high color rendering index, healthy and non-radiative, close to natural light, and itself is a light fixture, suitable for indoor lighting.
introduction At present, there are no large-scale enterprises that produce OLED lighting products in the world. However, the EU and the United States, South Korea, Japan and other countries have formulated relevant development strategies and research plans from the national strategic level, and vigorously funded technical research and product development of OLED lighting. Many famous lighting and optoelectronic companies in the world such as LG, Panasonic, Philips, Osram, etc. have also entered the field of OLED lighting, carrying out technology research and development, and occupying the leading position in the industry.
At the end of 2011, the National Development and Reform Commission issued a roadmap for the cancellation of incandescent lamps during the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan†period. In 2016, the sale of incandescent lamps with low energy efficiency will be completely banned. The newly formulated national “Twelfth Five-Year†solid-state lighting plan states that 30% of general lighting in China uses solid-state lighting within five years. Indoor lighting accounts for 74% of the total general lighting. Therefore, to achieve the "12th Five-Year" solid-state lighting plan, the entry of a new generation of lighting into indoor lighting is the key. LEDs belonging to solid-state lighting have become two major challenges in indoor general illumination. First, most of their white light is obtained by combining blue light and phosphor. The light quality is poor, which is difficult to match with incandescent lamps. Second, astigmatism/light guide is required. General-purpose but relatively expensive auxiliary devices such as heat dissipation are used to make lamps. Even if the price of chips is reduced year by year, the price of lamps cannot compete with existing energy-saving lamps and incandescent lamps.
In contrast to LED lighting, the OLED lighting panel itself is basically a luminaire with high energy efficiency, good light quality and close to natural light. It is the best lighting product for indoor lighting. Therefore, the challenges of LEDs provide an excellent opportunity for OLEDs that are also solid-state lighting.
Development Status of White OLED Lighting 1. Characteristics of OLED Lighting OLED, the Organic Light Emitting Diode, was developed by American Chinese scientist Dr. Deng Qingyun in the United States in the 1970s. The principle is to use transparent electrodes and metal electrodes such as ITO as the anode and cathode of the device respectively. Under a certain voltage, electrons and holes are injected from the cathode and the anode, respectively, and migrate to the organic light-emitting layer to meet in the light-emitting layer. The luminescence molecules are excited and the latter emits visible light through radiation relaxation (Fig. 1).
Currently, OLEDs are mainly used for flat panel display and illumination.
In fact, OLED and LED have similar illumination principles, and the theoretical values ​​of the two solid-state illumination luminous efficiencies are close to 250 lm/W. However, due to the different properties of luminescent materials and light sources, the performance of the two is essentially different. OLED lighting has the following main features:
The light source panel is the light fixture . The biggest difference with other point light sources (LEDs) and line light sources (energy-saving lamps) is that OLEDs are surface light sources, which essentially do not require other accessories such as lampshades, astigmatism components, etc., and can be used directly as lamps.
Because there is no need for surface light sources for other accessories, OLED lighting has two major advantages: First, OLED lighting fixtures can achieve 90% of the energy efficiency of their light sources, while other lamps have an energy efficiency of only 30%-70% of the corresponding light source. In other words, luminaires made with 100lm/W OLED lighting panels are equivalent to 140-300lm/W LED lighting devices. Therefore, in particular, people should use the energy efficiency of the luminaire instead of the energy efficiency of the light source when comparing lighting energy efficiency. Second, OLED lighting as a surface light source, large unit light-emitting area, is conducive to heat dissipation, LED is a point source, heat dissipation, need to use a large area of ​​heat sink, which not only increases energy consumption, but also greatly increases costs. Therefore, in terms of luminaires, OLED lighting will be cheaper than LEDs after mass production. Therefore, another point to note is that when comparing OLED lighting to other lighting costs, the fixture should be compared to the bulb/lamp/light panel.
High quality . OLED is a warm light source, soft light, adjustable color temperature (2800K-4000K), color rendering index (CRI) of more than 85, the US Department of Energy's latest use of the red index (R9) can reach as much as 80, and LED lights Most are cold light sources, glare, and R9 is generally negative. The reason why the current LED lamp gives people an uncomfortable feeling in some environments, the reason is that the R9 value is too low, because the LED lamp has poor color rendering to red, the red color in the environment cannot be restored. Many industries that require high red reproducibility are unable to adopt LED lighting. The white OLED is formed by superimposing and mixing three basic colors of red, green (yellow) and blue. The luminescence spectrum of the organic material is characterized by a wide half-peak width, so there is no large gap in the spectrum of the white OLED. This makes the color rendering of the OLED light source very excellent.
