Kia Soul EV battery pack full anatomy

Kia Soul EV is the first purely electric compact SUV of KIA Motors in Korea. It was first sold in Korea in May 2014 and then sold in Europe and the United States in July and October. In 2014, sales volume reached 2,235 units at home and abroad. In 2015, sales exceeded 10,000 mark, reaching 108.65 million units. As of December 2016, global sales have exceeded 20,000 units. The KIA Soul EV has a cruising range of 105 miles (EPA). Battery pack:

The KIA SOUL EV battery pack is located at the bottom of the car body. The rated voltage is 360V, the rated capacity is 75Ah, the total energy is 27kWh (the actual available energy is around 21.3kWh), the measured capacity is 84.1Ah, and the measured battery pack energy is 32.5kWh. The total voltage range is 240V~413V, and the voltage difference between the cells is less than 40mV.

The total weight of the battery pack is 203 kg, the volume is about 217 L, the energy density is 160 Wh/kg, and the energy-to-volume ratio is about 150 Wh/L.

Battery pack case:

Battery: Soul EV adopts soft pack battery of SK InnovaTIon of Korea. The battery type is ternary (NMC), rated capacity is 38Ah, measured capacity is 42Ah, rated voltage is 3.7V, voltage range is 2.5V~4.3V, energy density is 200 Wh. /kg.

Grouping: The entire battery pack consists of 192 batteries, 2 and 96 strings. The modules in the battery pack are divided into two types, one consisting of 10 batteries, the voltage is the other, and the other is composed of 14 batteries. The configuration scheme is shown in the figure below.

Charging time:

KIA Soul EV has 3 charging modes. It takes about 4~5 hours for normal charging. It can be charged to 100% SOC with charging post. Slow charging, about 24 hours, can be charged to 100% SOC.

Fast charging, using a dedicated charging station, can be completed in half an hour. Among them, it can be charged to 83% SOC within half an hour, and if charging is continued, it will be charged to 94% SOC in about 15 minutes. In the cold weather, fast charge may not be available.
