3GPP will announce the 5G Phase-1 standard at the conference in the United States in June this year.

The implementation of 4G LTE is a long and difficult process. The design and implementation of current wireless communication standards has also taken nearly four years. At the moment, 5G has been drafted, and the first phase of the standard is ready in just 27 months.

Since April 2016, Samsung Electronics has hosted the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), and this is the first meeting to discuss the 5G standard. More than 80 telecommunications companies participated in the conference. Two years later, in May 2018, Samsung held its second meeting in Busan, South Korea, to complete the standardization process. Through the feedback received from this year's Busan meeting, 3GPP will announce the 5G Phase-1 standard at the conference held in the United States in June this year.

5G services will provide up to 20 times more performance than current 4G LTE services. 5G will be launched in certain high-selection markets this year, but don't expect to be widely used in a few years.

The 5G deployment time has been significantly accelerated mainly due to contributions from countries such as Japan, South Korea and the United States. The initial goal for 2017 was set by Samsung, but some compromises were made to allow other participants to decide to switch to 5G after completing the LTE project.

The approval of the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has further accelerated the development of 5G. As one of the leading companies in 5G development, as of May this year, Samsung has registered more than 1,200 patents related to 5G. Once the first phase of standards is implemented, the 5G commercial competition in the second half of 2018 will be more intense.
