Hydroelectric power generation increased significantly in the first half of 2014

The National Bureau of Statistics announced the relevant economic data for June 2014. The total social power generation in June was 458.1 billion kWh, an increase of 5.7% year-on-year, 0.2 percentage point lower than the increase in May. According to statistics, the thermal power generation in June was 346.1 billion kwh, an increase of 6% year-on-year; the hydropower generation was 87.5 billion kwh, an increase of 4.4% year-on-year. In the first half of the year, the total amount of electricity generated by the entire society was 2,616.3 billion kWh, an increase of 5.8% over the same period of last year. The cumulative amount of thermal power generation was 2,999.5 billion kWh, an increase of 4.7% year-on-year, and the cumulative hydropower generation was 371.3 billion kWh, an increase of 9.7% year-on-year.

In terms of sub-categories, the electricity, heat, gas, and water production and supply industries grew by 4.7% in June, the mining industry increased by 7.9% year-on-year, and the manufacturing sector increased by 9.8%.

In terms of sub-sectors, in June, the value added of 39 industries in 41 major industries maintained a year-on-year growth. The electricity and heat production and supply industries grew by 3.4%, electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing increased by 10.8%, chemical raw materials and chemical products manufacturing increased by 10.6%, non-metallic mineral products industry increased by 8.9%, and ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing industry grew. 6.2%, non-ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing industry increased by 12.5%.
