The independent TJA1145 CAN transceiver and system foundation chip UJA1168-the world's first highly integrated solution that supports CAN local networks, enables design engineers to accurately control the vehicle bus communication network. By intelligently disabling some electronic control units (ECUs) that do not currently require activation, engineers can significantly reduce vehicle fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions without affecting product performance and consumer experience.
Under the current on-board network architecture, all ECUs in the vehicle will always be activated during the use of the vehicle and continue to generate power consumption. Even if some applications controlled by the ECU are not always needed (such as power seats, sunroofs, window lifters, etc.), this situation will not change. By activating only those ECUs that are functionally required, and at the same time keeping other ECUs in low power mode until they are needed, the CAN local network changes the original mode. This approach means a significant reduction in power consumption, cost, wiring and carbon dioxide emissions. The CAN local network is also extremely beneficial for electric and hybrid vehicles because it helps to extend driving range and optimize charging time.
At a large international automotive conference held in Ludwigsburg, Germany in June 2011, Audi, BMW, Daimler, Porsche and Volkswagen issued public statements supporting the establishment of new industry standards. TJA1145 and UJA1168 are next-generation networking solutions that combine analog circuits and high-density digital circuits. TJA1145 is a high-speed CAN transceiver, and UJA1168 is the basic chip of CAN system powered by integrated 5V / 100mA microprocessor. Both support the CAN local network solution by enabling the "selective wakeup" and "selective sleep" functions, and both can provide a small size HVSON14 package. For backward compatibility, NXP also offers TJA1145 in SO14 package.

TJA1145 and UJA1168 currently only provide engineering samples, and plans to begin mass supply in 2012.
