Recently, two international LED manufacturers Osram Germany and Cree have signed a global LED patent cross-licensing agreement.
The patented technologies covered by the cross-licensing agreement include blue LED chip technology, white LED and phosphor technology, packaging, LED lamps and lamps, and LED lighting control systems.
The agreement includes a patent sharing license for both companies. Among them, Osram's LED manufacturing subsidiary, Osram Opto Semiconductors, owns a patent and patented Cree LED Lighting, the original LED Light Fixtures.
Osram said the agreement protects patents from Osram and Cree customers and avoids potential patent disputes that could jeopardize some companies' LED products. The agreement is like a continuation agreement with a large LED manufacturer on a patent cross-licensing agreement that accelerates the spread of LED technology in a variety of applications. At the same time, the agreement will help companies develop, produce and sell new products by reducing the risk of inadvertently infringing patents of other companies.
In recent years, OSRAM has signed similar agreements with Nichia, Philips and Toyota Synthetic. Cree has signed a similar cross-licensing agreement with Philips to further accelerate the growth of the LED lighting market. At the same time, it has also reached an existing patent agreement on the LED technology with Nichia and Toyota Synthetic.
