The European Union recently passed a resolution to ban the use of large wattage (100 watts) incandescent bulbs in September 2009, and in 2012 completely banned incandescent bulbs with lower wattages to enforce energy-saving bulbs and further save energy.
The resolution also needs to be adopted in individual countries and the European Parliament. The move is one of the EU's measures to reduce energy consumption by 20% in 2020 to address climate change. The European Commission believes that after the implementation of this measure, energy savings are equivalent to the power supply of 10 500 MW power stations, or the average power consumption of 11 million households. At the same time, it reduces 1,500 tons of carbon emissions in Europe and saves 50 euros per family per year.
Currently, about 85% of home lighting in Europe does not consider energy saving factors. In the annual light bulb sales, ordinary light bulbs account for 1.8 billion, while energy-saving light bulbs only have 350 million. The United Kingdom has gradually phased out traditional light bulbs. After the resolution is finally approved, the EU will enforce energy-saving light bulbs according to law.
