New soft start module: one size for multiple current levels

Munich, Germany, March 9, 2018 – Infineon Technologies Bipolar GmbH & Co. KG announces Infineon® Power Start for low voltage soft start applications. The new range of modules meets the market's need for economical compact semiconductor solutions. Power Start with a new design focuses on reducing complexity and reducing component count. As a result, customers can shorten the soft starter development cycle and streamline their production processes. Low-voltage soft-start applications typically include conveyor belts, large fans, and mills. These products are found in pumps for freshwater and sewage transportation and oil extraction.

Power Smart modules with a new design concept are available in a total size of 55 mm for a wide range of current level applications. In comparison, other existing soft start solutions require several different sized enclosures. This new feature creates the conditions for integrating the module and the bypass contactor directly into a typical product. Power Start is equipped with an integrated heatsink that can be easily installed without the use of thermal grease. The module's double-sided cooling design can withstand up to 21 seconds and up to 2200 A of overload current. It has an industry leading power price ratio.
