Economic Daily: 5G Commercial Acceleration Arrives China's 5G Technology R&D Pilots are Entering the Final Stage

5G, the fifth-generation mobile communications network. Compared with 4G, 5G has features such as higher speed, wider bandwidth, and lower delay, which can meet the application needs of users and industries such as virtual reality, smart manufacturing, and autopilot in the future. Currently, 5G is still in the planning phase and has not yet reached large-scale commercial standards. However, with the official launch of Europe's first 5G pre-commercial network jointly established by China and Italy, the commercial progress of 5G has accelerated again.

"The progress of 5G is faster than expected. The first 5G pre-commercial network in Europe has been formally launched. This project was jointly constructed by ZTE and Italy's two major operators." At a media communication meeting held recently, ZTE vice president of communications Yan Min said.

According to reports, the EU's 5G action plan is generally divided into three phases. The first phase is 2018. It is necessary to start 5G pre-commercial testing. By 2020, at least one major city in each EU country will announce the commercial release of 5G; In 2025, complete 5G commercial deployment was completed. Italy is the first country in the EU to respond to the 5G action plan. In March of this year, the Italian government announced that it has selected five cities in the north, south and south of Italy to carry out commercial deployments, and will initiate 5G overall testing by the end of this year.

Bo Yanmin said that ZTE's acceleration in the promotion of 5G in Europe will also promote the 5G commercial process in other countries and regions, and promote the maturity of the 5G industry chain. In addition to Italy, ZTE Corporation has also reached a strategic cooperation with Orange (French Telecom Operator), which will carry out strategic cooperation and research in the field of 5G and its application solutions. Both parties will launch a multi-site 5G independent group in Europe in the second half of 2018. Network architecture test. In addition, ZTE recently completed the first phase of 5G bearer testing with the Spanish telephone company telefonica Group in Madrid's Future Network Laboratory, and signed a 5G cooperation memorandum with the largest state-owned telecommunications operator in India, BSNL.

The 5G construction in the Chinese market is even faster. In the first three quarters of the industry communication conference held recently, the Director of Information and Communications Development Division of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology Wen Kui said that by the end of this year, the second phase of the network will be partially tested. "As the first version of the 5G international standard is expected to be issued in June next year, our products can basically be introduced at the same time or close to commercial use, laying the foundation for the rapid development of 5G," Wen Ku said.

It is understood that in early June of this year, ZTE Corporation has joined hands with China Mobile to open the first 5G pre-commercial base station in Guangzhou; in late June, ZTE and China Unicom have opened 5G new airfield outfield test sites in Shenzhen. In addition, ZTE excels in the second phase of China's 5G R&D test.

China's 5G technology research and development test is divided into three stages: key technology test, technical program test and system test. Wen Kuo pointed out that from the current progress, the feasibility of the 5G single point key technology was verified in the first phase of technical trials completed in September 2016. In September 2017, the wireless test results of the second phase showed that the 5G technology integration solutions of various vendors can meet several key scenarios identified by the International Telecommunication Union, including peak rate, delay, user connectivity, and traffic density. This further enhances the industry’s confidence in business on schedule.

According to the introduction of the library, in order to facilitate the development of networking and cross-vendor joint testing, 30-site plant construction has been planned for 30 sites in Huairou, Beijing, and Huawei, ZTE, Datang, Ericsson, and Nokia Bell have jointly established 5 system manufacturers. The construction of 15 sites was completed, which effectively supported the 5G R&D technology trials and also accelerated the industrial chain cooperation and technology maturity.

"China's telecommunications industry has driven innovation through 5G development, has broken through key core technologies, accelerated the in-depth development of technical trials, and achieved remarkable results." Zuo Yurui, an engineer at the Institute of Policy and Economics, China Institute of Information and Communications, said: The three-phase test will be launched at the end of 2017 and early 2018. It follows the 5G unified international standards and focuses on the single station and networking performance of pre-commercial equipment and related interconnection tests based on commercial-oriented hardware platforms. It is planned to be completed before the end of 2018. carry out.
