Summary:

The following circuit provides two outputs: –5 V and +7 V. The load is referenced to the –5 V output to produce 5 V and 12 V outputs, 5 V drive control circuit, and 12 V output to the relay.

This circuit is especially useful for triac applications that require a negative gate voltage to drive. Since the gate of the thyristor is referenced to the RTN/N line, the gate of the triac can be driven with a signal between 0 V and –5 V when it is referenced to the –5 V output (VEE). (RTN/N).
