Parker Hannifin introduces a new compact and cost-effective servo motor series for explosion-proof Zone 2

EY series servo motor products support dynamic changes in torque, speed and position control

April 28, 2017 – Parker Hannifin, the global leader in motion and control technology, officially launched its EY series of explosion-proof PMAC (Permanent Magnet AC) servo motors. The certified, cost-effective new servo motor operates safely in explosion-proof Zone 2 (gas and dust) up to 40 or 60 °C with a maximum speed of 6800 rpm (rev/min) and a maximum output of 6.5 kW.

Designed for the need for compact construction and dynamics in terms of torque, speed and position control, Parker EY series motors are used in various industrial applications such as filling machines in the packaging sector, oil and gas-specific valve drives, automotive paint robots and food feed plants. Ideal.

In addition to the particularly hard outer casing, the new servo motor has some special features, such as thermal protection - when the motor overheats, the built-in PTC thermistor in the stator will alarm. If necessary, connect it directly to the drive – the temperature sensor is not mandatory in the specification, but for safety reasons, the temperature sensor is required in the standard EY series (no need to install other explosion-proof devices) . The connector is also fitted with a stainless steel protective layer. This design feature not only prevents disconnection during live operation, but also increases the impact resistance of the connector and can withstand up to 7 joules of impact.

The new explosion-proof brushless servo motor is available with CE and IECEx logos and is available in 70, 100, 130 and 155mm sizes. Continuous torque from 2 to 41 Nm (Nm) and inertia from 79 to 9200 kg/mm2 can be achieved. In addition, optical axes, key axles or brake options are available, encoder and sensorless feedback, natural cooling and IP65 protection levels are supported.

The EY series motors comply with the EU Directive 2014/34/EU. The biggest highlight is low inertia, which not only guarantees good motion quality, but also achieves high torque output over a wider range of speeds. Compared with the equivalent asynchronous motor, the 10-pole servo motor is five times smaller than the equivalent asynchronous motor. What's more, the EY series motors are compatible with a wide range of drives and, if required, a complete solution that integrates standard cables, drives, explosion-proof gearboxes and electric cylinders. The EY series motor complements Parker's current EX Series motors (for environmental conditions in the explosion-proof zone).
