5G is still far away, some people are already discussing 6G.
To develop network technology, it often takes many years, and it must be planned several decades in advance. Now 5G is not yet mature.
Before October 2018, the standards for 5G radio networks were not yet determined; there is also a set of 5G standards called IMT-2020, which will be available in 2020.
It is estimated that the United States will not deploy 5G networks until 2019-2024.
This year, AT&T and Verizon will deploy a 5G fixed wireless network, hoping that the networks of the two operators are forward-compatible quasi-5G networks.
Last week, Qualcomm CEO Matt Grob said: "Ultimately we will turn to 6G. Yes, we will spend some time thinking about 6G."
What is 6G? Nobody knows. 3GPP does not set a schedule for 6G, because the 6G standard will not be determined until around 2020, and the technology used at that time may not have been invented yet.
Will quantum computing be used? Use LiFi? Wormhole? These are just guesses from everyone...
Obviously, everyone wants to know what 6G is, just as everyone wants to know what the iPhone 10 is. Some people who want to know are investors. They want to make a bet and win the future. Some people want to put their skills into it. Still others are just curious about the future.
At MWC, we will hear a lot of news related to 5G. 4G LTE still has a long way to go, at least 10 years of life. As for 6G, we only know that someone is planning, but it is still ahead.
